Managing the Christmas Music (formerly appeared on the blog One Good Paragraph)

Now, about the 6th or 7th, you get a decision forced on you. Do you dive into the Christmas music now, or still keep it at a distance for awhile? It’s more of a touchy thing than most people realize. I mean, what if I don’t pull the trigger quick enough, and Christmas comes and goes, poof, one quick viewing of It’s a Wonderful Life and it’s over. There you are on the night of the 25th, surrounded by wrapping paper, holding a pair of argyle socks, staring at another 365-day wait. But you can’t jump too quick, or you risk getting a snarky sneer on your face around the 22nd when you hear Doris Day get all pouty one time too many with the “Here Comes Santa Claus” thing. I mean, you gotta craft your holiday cheer carefully, just like not overheating the cider. Holiday stress? You ain’t heard nothin’ yet… — Adam Barr
